Fan Mail!

Good evening, Dallas!

The lovely Katie D from The GD Kitchen has asked BDD the following:

Hey! So, I love wearing my nails short and with color (a big change for me!) so how do I do it in the Spring? I like the dark dark colors and I don't really like the corals and pale reds so is there something more neutral for me?? :) Do a post! Oh, and do another post on maternity and accessorizing ;)

Dear Katie, I'm SO glad you've branched out in to the technicolor world of nail painting!  I have a few multi-seasonal, very pretty neutrals for you to try.

This is Brooch the Subject, which Essie describes as "a creamy cashmere cameo".  It's perfect for the "mannequin hands" look (two coats), or if you just want an elegant, neutral-cream nude (one coat).

Next is Sugar Daddy by Essie.  This is my all-time favorite sheer pink.  It's not nearly as pink as the photo, and looks more like a classic, pinky-nude, no-frills manicure.  I prefer this to Mademoiselle by Essie.  Though Mademoiselle my be the most popular, it tends to look chalky on certain skin tones, and Sugar Daddy is one shade pinker, therefore more universally flattering.

Last is Skinny Dip'n in Lake Michigan by OPI.  This is a rosy, sparkly, tan in the family of neutrals.  Very pretty on toes, and looks great on pink to medium gold skin tones for hands.  It's got quite a bit of glittery sparkle in the polish, so it may require a few clear topcoats for a smooth finish, but the end result is beautiful.

Hope this helps, Katie.  Maternity accessorizing is coming soon :)  Send your questions to, or just leave a comment!

Happy manicuring, Dallas!

Cheap Tricks

Happy (almost) spring, Dallas!

As warmer weather approaches, I find myself shucking my boots in favor of my flats.  ESPECIALLY my silver Tory Burch flats.  I love them, but they pinch and rub my feet right around the toes.

What I've figured out is that a little self-stick velcro (fuzzy side) helps alleviate some of the discomfort.  It's cheap and easy, and saves me from pain and blisters.

This should work on the inside of any painful shoe, but be mindful of how thick the velcro is- if it's already a tight fit, the velcro may make the shoe even more snug.

Now, march straight to the sewing aisle, and happy shopping Dallas!

rebel rebel

And speaking of nails, Dallas, I've become a (recent) huge fan of the rebellious nail.

I thought this was such a fun way to mix things up just a little.  I'm wearing two coats of Essie A List on all fingers, plus two coats of *Deborah Lippman's Diamonds and Pearls on my ring finger (and middle finger of my right hand) for some sparkle.  A bright, metallic gold would also be a fun Christmas-y color for a rebellious nail.  I, of course, topped everything off with a thick coat of Good to Go!  As you can see, it worked like a charm.

*Diamonds and Pearls is a staple of my nail color collection.  Iridescent and shimmery, it adds depth and sparkly fun to any creme nail color.  I got my bottle at Nordstrom over four years ago, and it's still in fantastic condition.

Have fun trying out this festive trend, and happy shopping Dallas!

A Mom's Best Friend

Merry Christmas, Dallas!

I don't know why I'm just now learning about this product, but Essie's Good to Go Rapid Dry Top Coat is the best thing that's ever happened to my nails.

I've become somewhat of a nail polish junkie as of late, and this little bottle of miracles has kept my nails sparkling and chip-free for days.  I can now give myself a manicure in about 7 minutes flat, from first stroke of color to completely dry and set.  Bottle of miracles, I tell you.

This can be found almost anywhere Essie nail color is sold.  Go pick some up ASAP, and happy shopping Dallas!

what to wear wednesday

Welcome to Wednesday, Dallas!  Something about the weather... something about football season starting up... There!  I think we're all caught up.

My new favorite fragrance is Burberry Weekend.  I'm sure I name a different fragrance as my favorite bi-weekly, but as I've mentioned here and here, I'm a perfume-aholic.  The heart wants what it wants, right?  I make no apologies, Dallas.

Light and airy, with a hint of apricot, vanilla and sandalwood, this fragrance is PERFECT for the balmy heat that is Dallas.  It's never overpowering, and dries down beautifully.  If you're in the market for a new scent, give this one a try!

I bought my bottle from Big Discount Fragrances (classy sounding, I know).  Cheap trick: Buy a tester bottle!  BDF sells testers of some of their fragrances, and they're even cheaper than the deeply discounted bottles.  Testers are NO DIFFERENT than the marketed bottles.  They contain the same fragrance, and the same amount.  The only difference is the packaging.  It will come in either a plain white box, or no box, and it may or may not have a decorative cap.  That's it!

Send me YOUR favorites!  Happy shopping, Dallas!

what to wear wednesday

It's crunch time, Dallas.  In honor of my new healthy eating habits, I'm posting a recipe today!  I'd love to wear all of my cute clothes from last Fall in the next few months, so this technically applies.

Healthy Tuna Salad

1 small can of albacore tuna
1 small avocado, diced
2 Tbsp red onion, diced
1/4 C purple grapes, diced

Mix it all up, and serve on toast!  This was a favorite of mine until I was pregnant with our second, and it gave me heartburn.  TMI?

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and hopefully, we'll all be back into our Fall digs soon.  Happy eating, Dallas!
